Why lease the Nissan Leaf?

The Nissan Leaf is a flagship electric vehicle, renowned for its affordability, easy maintenance and reliability. The stylish hatchback was one of the first mainstream models to provide all-electric driving with low running costs, emitting no CO2 emissions and claiming an impressive 124-mile range between charges. It’s also one of the safest EVs on the market, with its stability control features earning it a five-star EuroNCAP rating. And if that weren’t enough to convince you to switch to electric, the Leaf also has a 100% congestion charge discount and qualifies for a £3,500 plug-in car grant from the UK government. The Leaf is available in three core trim levels: Acenta, N-Connecta and Tekna.

AMT's review

Performance and features

The second-generation Nissan Leaf is more efficient than ever before, boosting battery range by 50%, engine power by 40% and torque by a respectable 25%. Qualifying for the lowest band of the benefit-in-kind tax, even the entry-level model has enough kit to appeal to most drivers, including 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic lights, adaptive cruise control and a range of safety features. Stepping up to the mid-range N-Connecta adds electric folding wing mirrors, 360-degree parking sensors and half-leather seats, while the range-topping Tekna boasts full LED headlights, heated seats and an electronic parking brake.

The standard 40kWh has 40bhp more than before, boasting a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds. e-Tekna variants have a 62kWh battery power which cuts this time down to 7.3 seconds and raises the top speed to 98mph. What really sets the Leaf apart from other EVs is Nissan’s e-Pedal technology, where the regenerative brakes harvest energy to replenish the battery when used. The same effect can be achieved by moving the gear selector to B, or pressing the e-Pedal button between the front seats. The smaller battery has a range up to 168 miles, while the larger one claims 239 miles.

Interior technology

One of the most noticeable improvements in the latest Leaf is its driver-oriented interior, which benefits from accessible controls, comfortable materials and a responsive digital display. All trim levels come fitted with sat nav, a DAB radio and smartphone connectivity, although springing for the range-topping Tekna brings part-leather seats, a heated steering wheel and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Passengers also experience the comfortable ride Nissan is known for, with the front seats electrically adjustable on Tekna and Tekna e+ models.

Alternative deals

At AMT, we offer a range of Nissan cars to lease as well as the Leaf. If you like the Nissan Leaf, you may also like our deals on the Tesla Model 3 or Jaguar i-Pace.
